High IQ in exhange for No EQ?

Seriously, it is not hard to notice the worrying trend of robotic teenagers nowadays. In terms of gaming and studies, they are getting beta and beta. However, they had become so dependant on others. They do not have a mind of their own anymore. Disappointing. As wad Derek mentioned to me a couple of days ago. Their common sense are no longer deemed as COMMON SENSE anymore. Looking at my scouts alone, i can sense the impending crisis Singapore may face in the future. Teenagers are SOAKED in their comfort zone, not exposed to the world outside. Just look at the laxing of rules and regulations in NS. Who knows? In a couple of years, NS men no longer need to stay in camp at all. Can we really be dependant on these younger generations to defend our country and lead the economy?

Sometimes i ponder abt how the situation had changed in just 5 to 10 yrs. I am not very old myself, only a mere 19 yrs old. However, i can feel the vast difference in thinking between me and someone that is 14-15 yrs old. Not to say i am very matured or wad. But i remembered trying out crazy stuffs as a teenager. Running from police while playing soccer at void decks... Maybe the parents nowadays contribute to the problem. They dun allow young pple to indulge themself in the beauty of discovering their own personality thru experiences. Be it good or bad. "Just follow what i tell you"... Is that what education is all about?

Another worrying trend is the extend of how our teenages are affected by western influence. Be it consciously or sub consciously. We haf to admit that the generation now are opening themselves up to sensitve issues like sex. The article in Sunday times mentioned abt how open the teenagers nowadays. Seriously, do we still remember our roots as Chinese? Its disheartening when i look thru the article. Am i the only one that feels this way? The teenagers are not the one to be faulted totally. Just turn on to Channel 5 and look thru the TV listings. All i can see. Negative influences. I hope that those broadcasting the shows, spare a thought for the viewers. U would not want ur daughters or sons to be what it is like in the show.

Sentiments that not many in our society now shares with me... Sad.
